چکیده
Around half of the pregnancies in women with epilepsy are unplanned and choice contraceptive method epileptic is important, since it requires considering their possible pharmacological interactions certain types anti-epileptic drugs. Drugs from this class which induce hepatic enzyme activity may alter metabolism most hormonal methods contraception, affect efficacy. Hormonal contraception regarded as highly effective, but its interaction anti-epileptics accelerate latter consequent risk failure, reduction plasma concentration predisposing to seizures, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, teratogenicity, maternal or fetal complications difficulty management during pregnancy. In case prescribing both medications, combined use a barrier should be considered. Pharmacokinetic interactions between contraceptives and antiepileptic drugs
The occurrence of bi-directional drug interactions between antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and combined oral contraceptives (OCs) pose potential risks of un-intended pregnancy and as well as seizure deterioration. It is well established that several of the older AEDs (carbamazepine, phenytoin and phenobarbital), are strong inducers of the hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 enzyme system, and are asso...

Metabolism of contraceptive compounds may be influenced by various drugs. Of clinical importance is induction by barbiturates, by diphenylhydantoin, and especially by rifampicin, of enzymes that are responsible for degradation of estrogens. The major target is the hepatic microsomal estrogen-2-hydroxylase (cytochrome P450 3A4). Another type of interaction of drugs with disposition and effective...

NEED AND PURPOSE OF REVIEW A number of newer anti-epileptic drugs have been developed in the last few years to improve the treatment outcomes in epilepsy. In this review, we discuss the use of newer anti-epileptic drugs in children. METHODS USED FOR LOCATING, SELECTING, EXTRACTING AND SYNTHESIZING DATA MEDLINE search (1966-2013) was performed using terms newer anti-epileptic drugs, Oxcarbazep...

Epilepsy represents the most common serious neurological disorder, with a prevalence of 0.4 - 1%. Approximately 30% of patients are resistant to currently available drugs. New anti-epileptic drugs are needed to treat refractory epilepsy, improve upon current therapies, improve the prognosis of epilepsy and to prevent the epileptogenic process. Designing compounds with specific physiological tar...
متن کاملNeurodevelopmental effects of anti-epileptic drugs.
Use of medication with a desired effect on the central nervous system (as with anti-epileptic drugs) in children will undoubtedly cause concern about neurodevelopment. Data are emerging to suggest an effect of anticonvulsants on the developing brain of the unborn child when administered to mothers with epilepsy. This obviously requires detailed evaluation, especially when considering the risks ...
